Judicial Commission Of Inquiry Into Oriire Abduction: Much Ado About Nothing? | By Sola Abegunde

Before I get to the main points of this piece, I saw a post on Facebook now which I can not overlook.

Governor Seyi Makinde and the Allied People’s Movement, APM are allegedly forcing Students Union Leadership to either declare for the APM or forfeit every benefits from the Makinde Administration! Imagine that!

I definitely will ventilate on this matter later.

A lot of people don’t really know the extent to which even the Governor of Oyo state is deceiving himself.

They just assumed that Seyi Makinde is very popular and is doing well.

I’ve been on a Radio station and the gentleman who hosted me was of the strong view that the people of Oyo state are largely with the Governor.

Well, this is just one of the ways he is currently sustaining that fake followership.

This draconian approach is not limited to the Students Community. The Civil service and other Unions who have one thing or the other to get from the Makinde Government are all under this oppressive system.

I must say that the gentleman, Ridwan Adegoke is not only brave, he is also very brilliant. According to his account, he is a zonal Coordinator of the National Association of Nigerian Students. ( NANS).

I commend his courage.

Now, let me ask, has anyone heard anything about the activities of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry set up by Governor Seyi Makinde to inquire into the abduction of Teachers and Pupils at Oriire Local Government?

On my part, all I am seeing and hearing is silence. Complete silence!

I am interested in the activities of the Commission for several reasons.

First, a Commission of this nature would definitely cost Oyo state some resources. Public resources for that matter.

Secondly, some of us were of the view that the timing for the setting up of the Commission was wrong because, the Commission is being asked to inquire about a matter that could still be under investigation, making it impossible for certain Agencies of the Federal Government to participate.

We also, therefore, queried the timing of the setting up of the Commission on the basis of the reason above, knowing fully well that the Commission lacks the power to compel the appearances of Security Agencies.

I am also interested in their activities because I personally submitted a memorandum for the consideration of the commission.

The Memorandum in question is dated the 4th day of August, 2026 and it was sent by Courier to the Secretary of the Commission on the 12th of August, 2026.

As mandated, I submitted not one, but two of my active telephone numbers, but, till today, I haven’t heard anything from the Commission.

I am seriously worried.

I hope the Commission would not wind up without doing anything because that would be extremely unfortunate for people like us who took time to prepare a Memorandum.

It will also not speak well about the Governor.

He was so emphatic about his belief that something was not well about the abduction and the rescue operation of the victims of the Oriire abduction.

Infact, I would be terribly disappointed if he, as Governor, acting like he knew a lot of things that the ordinary citizens of Oyo state did not know, ended up without, at least, submitting a Memorandum containing details of what inspired him to set up the Commission in the first place.

Governor Seyi Makinde said a lot of things before and during his inauguration of the Commission.

So much insinuation from the Governor and when some of us were against him setting up the Commission, his supporters were up in arms.

Many of them were even so bold to cast aspersions on the Federal Government and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

I thought the Commission would be flooded with Memoranda.

I will not yet conclude on anything yet, but I definitely will not let this matter rest.

I deliberately submitted the Memorandum because I don’t want a situation where the Commission would round up without at least, receiving just one Memorandum.

For Governor Seyi Makinde’s sake, something concrete better come out from the Commission.
