Governor Makinde’s Jumpy Jump And A Tale Of Akere| Sola Abegunde

Akere is a specie of frog, usually referred to as the swift frog but there is a tale about that jumpy little frog that ought to have caught Governor Makinde’s consciousness when he started jumping about in Akure a couple of weeks ago.

Akere was once in line to become a King and the little fellow, out of uncontrolled excitement, decided to declare a whole week of pre-coronation celebration.

He mounted a horse and started dancing all over the place.

Unfortunately for him, a few days to his coronation, while dancing and jumping about, he broke a bone in his thigh.

On the day of his coronation, he presented himself before the Kingmakers to be crowned but there was a law in that Community, whoever that would be crowned king must not suffer any form of infirmity.

Sadly, here was Akere, limping on one leg, due to his broken thigh.

Akere lost the chance to be crowned king because of his uncontrolled excitement that led him to break his thigh. ( Ayo ayoju ti Akere yo, to fi kan ni itan).

Like I said, I was surprised to see Governor Makinde jumping about in Akure.

From the way he leapt from the podium to the canvas on the day, you will wonder if he missed the little childish play of our younger days. ( Iya mi ko le be, Baba mi ko le be, bee, bee, bee lomode nbe).

Governor Makinde has been receiving a lot of criticism for his actions in Akure, as he should.

Just like Akere, he broke something on that day. Not his thigh, but the loss of respect and dignity.

How could someone be so bereft of ideas to the extent that he would limit the qualifications for the presidency of Nigeria to the ability to jump from one place to the other?

Everyone knows that he is not a serious presidential candidate, but, even at that, what happened to decorum?

Many of us knew that his presidential ambition is solely targeted at getting president Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s attention.

Sadly for him, whatever he did, no matter how violent he has continued to shake the table, the president seemed determined not to look at his side this time around.

Governor Makinde must be terribly frustrated with the president’s continued snubbing of him, but, ask yourself, what should he expect from a man, who covered his shame in 2023 only to be insulted over and over from the same man he assisted?

I have heard this argument over and over. Supporters of Governor Seyi Makinde will always say that Tinubu won in Oyo because Makinde worked for his success.

Let us not even argue now, but, let’s look at it from this angle, if you remove the votes scored by Tinubu in Oyo state and add it to that of Atiku’s or Obi’s, wouldn’t Tinubu still have won the presidential election?

However, on the other hand, if you withdrew Tinubu’s support for Makinde’s second term, where would Makinde have been today?

Assuming president Tinubu is a serial betrayal like Governor Makinde and immediately after he became president-elect in 2023, he refused to honor the agreement between them, what would have become of Makinde today?

I have tried to analyze Governor Makinde’s grievances against Tinubu and I’m yet to see any concrete reasons for his bitter annoyance.

I see no sense at all in the allegations that President Tinubu refused to appoint Bimbo Adekambi as a Minister.

Perhaps, Governor Makinde has forgotten that he once told us that the same President Tinubu offered him the structures of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Oyo and he declined the offer.

If that claim is true, is the structure of the APC not bigger than any Ministerial slot?

If ego and pride didn’t allow him to accept the offer from the president and he has reasons to blame himself now for refusing the offer, who is to blame?

Sometimes, I wondered what could have prompted the offer of the Oyo APC structure to Governor Seyi Makinde and this is with the greatest respect to the presidency.

What exactly is so special in Governor Makinde that he was offered the structures of the APC in Oyo?

That offer, if accepted by the Governor of Oyo state, would have saved him from the current embarrassment he is currently experiencing.

The presidency treated Makinde like an over pampered child and true to his character, he messed up.

When a man is destined to run mad when he grows up, he will not die young. ( Esin ti were a se, ko nii je ko ku ni kekere).

When I heard Governor Makinde spewing out those words, that, he was offered the structure of the APC in Oyo state, but he declined the offer, I shouted a big Alleluyah. I knew, he just signed his political death warrant.

I can’t begin to imagine, what would have been the results of him accepting such offer?

Like I said, Governor Makinde’s presidential ambition is just a smokescreen.

The original intention is to get president Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s attention.

Unfortunately for him, this time around, he has crossed the Rubicon and there is no going back. The road to perdition, for him, leads forward.

I am enjoying the game as it is presently playing out.

Every darts Governor Makinde has been throwing at Tinubu and the APC are missing its targets.

The various wars he has been waging on different fronts are ending up in colossal failures.

He battled former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike for the soul of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, he lost.

He has been launching waves and waves of unprovoked attacks against Senator Sarafadeen Abiodun Alli, the Olubadan of Ibadan Land, Dr. Zach Adedeji, Chief Jubril Dotun Sanusi, the Alaafin of Oyo and many others. He is unsuccessful in all.

Infact, at this point, no one is taking Governor Makinde serious.

He has become an object of ridicule home and abroad and whatever he says these days, no one, except his lickspittles are taking him seriously.

Between 2019 and 2023, Governor Makinde was a Masquerade. A fearsome one for that matter, but, the secret behind him is that every piece of clothes on him were borrowed and when he forgot himself and started insulting those who borrowed him the pieces of clothes, those ones have been withdrawing their pieces of clothes one by one and presently, the once feared Masquerade has been derobed and standing alone, naked in the market place.

Even, Governor Makinde himself knows that he is naked and he is desperate to get himself covered up again, but, by who?

He has kept manufacturing and fabricating all manner of lies against the president and many others, who he perceived as his political enemies. Yet, no reprieve.

The Governor of Oyo state has murdered sleep and it has eluded him.

Incidentally, his pet-dragon in Oyo, have decided to be following his footsteps.

Everything about them is violence, aggression, insults, lies and half-truths.

I learned that the Chairperson of the Broadcasting Corporations of Oyo state, BCOS, Mrs. Olaitan has been dragged into their Media Committee and that Bimbo Adekambi would be going to the BCOS for another arranged interview.

It is too late in the day to deceive the public. What is done in the BCOS has been done. The damage is too severe and Bimbo’s appearance on the station would change nothing.

Will his appearance on BCOS return the portion of Land that had been converted to a GRA or it will remove the lock up shops built to deface the place?

Well, at least, we will enjoy some entertainment as usual.

I just hope Bimbo is not going to copy his mentor by challenging other candidates to a jumping competition.

A o nii fi ori gbale o.

Sola Abegunde.
