Oyo APC Decries Abduction of Adelabu’s Sister, Sons in Ibadan, Demands Immediate Rescue
The All Progressives Congress APC in Oyo state has strongly condemned the Wednesday abduction of Mrs Busayo Adelabu John-Paul by unidentified gunmen in Ibadan urging Governor Seyi Makinde to collaborate with security agencies and relevant stakeholders with a view to arresting the spate of insecurity in the state.
Mrs John-Paul, who is a biological sister to the immediate former Minister of Power in Nigeria, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, was reportedly kidnapped alongside her 12 year-old twin sons at Elewura-Challenge Area of Ibadan- the state capital. The abduction was carried out by some armed attackers who were said to have trailed the car conveying the victims from their home before flagging them down at 7.30am at the scene of the incident.
In a statement issued today and made available to journalists in Ibadan by its Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, Oyo APC lamented that the kidnapping of Busayo and her sons happened at a time when the public was increasingly becoming agitated over the unresolved cases of kidnappings involving some school children and their teachers in Oriire local government area as well as two staff of the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN) in Idi-Ayunre Area of Oluyole local government area of Oyo state.
“We use this medium to appeal to the relevant authorities at the federal, state and local government levels to take a critical look at the security architecture of Oyo state with a view to tightening all the loose ends and ensure maximum protection of lives and properties of the citizens regardless of their background, economic or social-political status.
“We demand immediate rescue of all Oriire school abductees, 2 CRIN staff, Mrs Busayo John-Paul and her children as well as others who are in captivity at the moment while we also call for concerted efforts from the governments (particularly Gov. Makinde) and security agencies to arrest the ugly trend of kidnappings and violent attacks against residents of the state.
“No citizen deserves to live in perpetual fear and anxiety as it is the situation with the residents of Oyo state at the moment and it is on this premise that we call on Gov. Makinde to come from his high horse and seek help where necessary so that the situation does not degenerate further. As it stands, nobody is safe anywhere in the state and it has never been this bad”. Oyo APC said.
