Oriire Youth Council Unveils Massive PVC Registration Drive, Trains Volunteers in 16 Communities
The Oriire Youth Council (OYC) has successfully trained 16 ICT volunteers, drawn from various communities, political structures, and independent nominees, across the ten wards of Oriire Local Government, on voter registration and PVC-related support services. The training, held on Saturday, was facilitated by Mr. Francis Aderemi Adewale and Mr. Olusayo Ayandokun—both members of the Ogbomoso Descendants Development Association (ODDA) ICT Team.
In his welcome address, the National Chairman of the Oriire Youth Council, Comrade Isiaka Sarafadeen Owonikoko, commended the trainees for making themselves available for this important civic development exercise. He noted that the PVC Drive Initiative is one of the strategic interventions of the Youth Council aimed at deepening democratic participation at the grassroots.
The Executive Chairman of Oriire Local Government, Hon. Alabi Michael Olateju, was ably represented by his Chief of Staff, Hon. Bankole, alongside his Personal Assistant, Hon. Oladeji Oladayo, and other members of his team. Delivering the Chairman’s goodwill message, Hon. Bankole reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to supporting all initiatives that promote civic awareness, youth development, and democratic strengthening across Oriire.
The member representing Oriire State Constituency at the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Johnson Ogundele, also graced the event. In his address, he charged the trainees to go back home and justify the trust reposed in them by their communities by becoming true ambassadors of Oriire in the execution of their duties. He further prayed for the volunteers—especially those with political ambitions—that they would also rise and succeed like him at the right and appointed time, encouraging them never to lose focus on their dreams.
The National Orientation Agency (NOA) was represented by the Community Mobilization Officer, Mr. Adeniyi Oluseyi Gideon, who highlighted the importance of civic literacy and urged the volunteers to uphold integrity and accuracy while supporting residents with PVC-related issues.
Member of the Oyo State Youth Parliament, Joshua Ojo Akín, who also anchored the event, emphasized that the initiative marks another milestone in empowering young people to strengthen democratic processes within their localities.
The Chairman of the Committee on PVC Drive, Comrade Ajala Oluwaseun Babatunde, appreciated the partners and facilitators, noting that the knowledge gained by the volunteers would greatly reduce the burden on citizens seeking PVC-related assistance. He also charged the newly inaugurated IT Support Team to provide regular updates for proper monitoring and documentation of progress. He reminded the volunteers to always consult their sponsors for necessary logistic support—only at their convenience—without compromising their personal livelihood.
Earlier, the Ogbomoso Descendants Development Association (ODDA) had pledged monthly data support for the volunteers during a preparatory meeting with representatives of OYC at Talking Drum Hotel & Suites.
