The Bimbo Adekambi Interview: I Said So || Sola Abegunde

I had wanted to do something about the interview granted by the candidate of the Allied People’s Movement, APM, Mr. Bimbo Adekambi until the misadventure at a popular Radio station interrupted my plans and talk of that misadventure, I see that the Radio station had done a rejoinder to the statements by Prince Diran Odeyemi.

I am so disappointed that some people are yet to appreciate the fact that it is always better to keep quiet when you find yourself in tight corners. When you are trapped in a hole, stop digging.

I read the rejoinder and I asked myself, how could an organization like the Radio station in question prepare a rejoinder against the kind of weighty allegations against it and the facts attributed to the organization would be provided by ” an insider who craves anonymity”?

The rejoinder is a worthless piece. At best, an afterthought and the fellow who got power drunk and threw caution to the wind must live with the bashing and dragging following the unfortunate incident.

That is the reward for gluttony.

Now, back to the Bimbo Adekambi Interview. I have listened to what appears to me, to be a snippet of the said interview.

I am so surprised that some of his supporters are elated about his performance to the extent that they are celebrating it.

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote a piece where I said that Bimbo Adekambi is a perfect replica of Governor Seyi Makinde and the gentleman couldn’t wait to vindicate me!

Like I said, the video of the interview which I saw, appears to be a snippet, but it was more than enough.

Bimbo Adekambi is a Christian, I suppose and I am sure that he will be familiar with this passage from the Holy Bible. ” From the fullness of the heart, the mouth speaketh”.

I was so shocked to listen to him, bragging about what he could do with charms and enchantment.(Oogun abenu gongo).

If you are in doubt, go and watch the video on YouTube. You will hear an aspiring Governor bragging that he has people in his father’s village at Adiko, I hope I heard him well.

He claimed that if he wanted to, all he needs to do is to call those people and ask them to cast an enchantment which will increase the disaffections within the ranks of the All Progressives Congress, APC. ( A ni awon eeyan ni oko wa ni Adiko, to je pe taa ba pe won, ti won ba fee, yoo maa daru sii ni.)

Not done, he went further, “….ko tii leyin tan, o sese bere ni”. Meaning, the crisis in APC is just starting. Again, he said, “…ti won ba tu ni ogun odun, emi mo see”. Meaning, if the APC disintegrates in twenty years, hold me responsible.

What a reckless manner of speaking? Is this fellow not a perfect replica of Seyi Makinde? Give them a microphone and they are in soup.

Let me ask Bimbo, who says there is a crisis in Oyo APC in the magnitude of which he was exaggerating it? Who says the APC is disintegrating?

Just recently, a former Deputy Governor of Oyo state, former Nigerian Ambassador, former Chairman, South West of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, former Deputy National Chairman, South of the PDP and the immediate past National Secretary of the PDP, H. E, Alhaji Taofik Arapaja left Governor Seyi Makinde to join the APC with his followers.

Before then, another former Deputy Governor of the state, H. E, Hazim Gbolarumi and his followers had left him, holding on to the legally recognized PDP.

Oriyomi Hamzat, a very close ally and strong supporter of Governor Seyi Makinde left his Camp and joined the Accord.

Governor Seyi Makinde’s Advisory Council, GAC is currently in disarray. A former Deputy Chief of Staffs to the late Governor Adebayo Alao Akala and prominent politician in Ogbomoso, Alhaji Razak Gbadegesin left Governor Seyi Makinde.

A former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and former Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Hosea Agboola also left the Governor’s Camp to join the APC.

Barrister Folorunso Lana and many others have resigned from the GAC and this is just the beginning.

The worst part is the fact that Bimbo Adekambi himself is the reason why there are a lot of disaffections within the Camp of Governor Seyi Makinde and here he is, having the mouth to discuss the chaff in the eyes of others while neglecting the log of wood in his own eyes!

He was asked to justify the reasons why he left the APC and all I could deduce from his watery explanations is that he was denied the ticket to contest for an elective position.

That gentleman is very deceptive, with due respect to him.

In truth, he and Governor Seyi Makinde had been together for a very long time and that is why, when Governor Makinde was asked to nominate a Minister by Tinubu, he submitted his name and he can not deny this fact.

He was only bidding his time within the APC. So, who is deceiving who?

For someone who claimed that the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi identified and brought him into politics from the private sector, to now say that he left the APC because the party doesn’t reward commitments and contributions of loyal Party men, I do not know which words are strong enough to condemn his hypocrisy.

While he was in the private sector, were people not with Ajimobi, fighting side by side with him to see that he achieved his ambition of becoming Governor of Oyo state and while those people were making sacrifices, where was Bimbo?

How many of those who fought the battle with the late Ajimobi got the kind of reward Bimbo Adekambi got from that Government?

How many of those who were involved in the struggle but who didn’t get a fair share left because Bimbo got a better deal?

Now, flip to the other side. Is Bimbo telling us that everyone who stood with Governor Seyi Makinde when he, Bimbo was in the APC and who, like him, showed interest in becoming the anointed gubernatorial candidate of Governor Seyi Makinde, but failed, should leave the Governor’s Camp and join another party?

Or is he saying that Governor Makinde is fair to jettison those who stood with him through thick and thin but who the Governor never trusted to succeed him?

If you examine Bimbo Adekanbi’s arguments logically, it appears the fellow is just saying, all of you who had been with Governor Makinde all these while are foolish to have contested the ticket with me.

In fact, laughed at the touch of hypocrisy when he was asked about the donations at Bode market.

When he was announcing unsolicited donations on behalf of Sarafa Alli elsewhere, he did so in style, his arms widely apart from his body as much as they could and he, jerking and adjusting his flowing Agbada several times but when the same Sarafa Alli donated ten times what he donated at Bode market, he implied that the promise of 25 million Naira might not have been kept.

Well, for the avoidance of doubts, Hon. Sina Alabi, on behalf of Senator Sarafadeen Abiodun Alli, delivered a cheque of 25 million Naira to the marketers within 48 hours if not less.

I also heard him when he said he could account for every last kobo spent by the Government of the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi.

That is very impressive but will he also account for every last kobo he has received as the Chairman of the Committee saddled with the responsibilities of upgrading the Alakia Airport?
