The National Senate of the Federation of Oyo State Students’ Union (FOSSU) has welcomed the safe release of the pupils, students, and teachers who were abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, describing their freedom as a moment of relief and thanksgiving for families, communities, and the entire state.
In a statement signed by the Senate President, Dist. Sen. Yekinni Sodiq A., and the National Senate Clerk, Jeremiah Iyanuoluwa Amao, the student body expressed profound gratitude to God for preserving the lives of the victims and ensuring their safe reunion with their loved ones.
FOSSU commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Oyo State Government under Governor Seyi Makinde for their commitment toward securing the release of the abductees. The union also acknowledged the critical roles played by traditional rulers, including the Soun of Ogbomosoland, Baales and community chiefs in the affected areas, as well as personnel of the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force, the Oyo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corps), local hunters, and other stakeholders whose collaborative efforts contributed to the successful rescue operation.
While celebrating the development, the student union urged both the Federal and State Governments, alongside security agencies, to strengthen measures aimed at protecting schools and educational institutions across Oyo State. According to the statement, the safety of pupils, students, teachers, and other members of the academic community must remain a priority.
The FOSSU National Senate further reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for a safe, secure, and conducive learning environment for students at all levels across Oyo State.
