AIB Demands Public Apology from Naija24hrs After Removal of Defamatory Publication
Hon. Abeeb Idowu Balogun (AIB), the ADC candidate for Ibadan South-West State Constituency II, has demanded a public apology from Naija24hrs following the removal of a publication alleging that he would not appear on the ballot in the 2027 Oyo State House of Assembly election.
The demand follows a formal letter issued by AIB on November 6, 2026, challenging the publication titled “Court Vindicates Real ADC: Ila Born, Habeeb Balogun Won’t Be on Ballot for Ibadan South-West Constituency 2.”
In the letter addressed to the platform’s publisher, Mr Alabede Peters, AIB described the report as false, misleading and defamatory, insisting that no court had removed him as the ADC candidate and that neither the party nor INEC had announced any such development.
Following his demand, the publisher has deleted the controversial publication from the website.
However, AIB has insisted that deleting the report is not enough to address the damage caused by its publication.
He is now demanding a public apology and full retraction to be published on the same Naija24hrs platform, with wider coverage and the same level of prominence enjoyed by the original report.
He maintained that the apology must clearly correct the impression created by the earlier publication and inform readers that the claims made against his candidacy were unfounded.
AIB further stressed that the demand for a public apology is necessary to protect his reputation, restore public confidence and prevent the spread of misleading information.
While acknowledging the removal of the report, he expects Naija24hrs to take the additional step of publicly correcting the record.
