Oyo Assembly Adopts Sanjo Adedoyin’s Motion for Immediate Rehabilitation of Rural Roads Across 33 LGAs
The Oyo State House of Assembly has adopted a motion sponsored by the Majority Leader, Hon. Sanjo Adedoyin, representing Ogbomoso South State Constituency, calling for the immediate grading and rehabilitation of rural roads across the state’s 33 Local Government Areas.
Adedoyin moved the motion on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, highlighting the deteriorating condition of rural roads and the hardship it continues to impose on farmers, traders, students and other residents of rural communities.
He noted that rural roads remain critical to grassroots development, connecting farming communities to markets, children to schools and residents to essential healthcare services.
With the dry season approaching, the lawmaker called for a coordinated road grading exercise across all local governments, the restoration of faulty graders to full operational capacity and a renewed commitment to routine rural road maintenance by council chairmen.
Following deliberations, the House adopted the motion, commending Governor Seyi Makinde for his ongoing urban road construction and rehabilitation projects, while directing the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters to mobilise local government chairmen for immediate rural road grading.
The Assembly also called for the repair of faulty road graders to reduce the need for procuring new equipment and urged council chairmen to prioritise rural road rehabilitation to improve transportation, boost agricultural activities, stimulate local economies and enhance internally generated revenue.
The House’s resolution underscores the need for a balanced development approach that gives rural communities adequate attention alongside urban centres.
Speaking on the importance of the motion, Adedoyin maintained that development must extend beyond major cities, stressing that no community should be left behind in the state’s pursuit of sustainable development.
