Renewed Hope Skills Programme Gains Momentum in Oyo, Ogun, Lagos as Trainees Near Completion
The Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Vocational and Skills Training Programme has continued to record impressive progress across Oyo, Ogun and Lagos states, with participants successfully completing the first week of intensive practical training.
The programme, implemented by the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA) under the N-POWER initiative, is scheduled to conclude after three more working days, marking the completion of the eight-day vocational training designed to equip beneficiaries with practical, employable and entrepreneurial skills.
At designated training centres across the three states, participants have been engaged in hands-on sessions facilitated by experienced instructors, acquiring technical knowledge in high-demand vocational trades aimed at promoting self-reliance and economic empowerment.
The National Programme Manager of N-POWER, Mr. Nsikak Amos Okon, expressed satisfaction with the enthusiasm, discipline and commitment displayed by trainees since the commencement of the programme.
He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to tackling unemployment and poverty through sustainable skills acquisition, describing the initiative as a strategic investment in Nigeria’s human capital development.
According to him, the programme goes beyond vocational training by creating pathways to entrepreneurship, improving beneficiaries’ economic prospects and fostering long-term financial independence.
Participants are currently receiving training in 14 vocational trades, including automobile technology, agricultural technology, baking and confectionery, carpentry, catering services, electrical installation, housekeeping, jewellery and bead making, masonry, plumbing, welding and fabrication, fashion design and sewing, grinding machine operations, and vulcanising and tyre services.
Mr. Okon assured beneficiaries that their training allowances would be paid directly into their respective bank accounts, while starter packs would be distributed upon successful completion of the programme to enable them establish or expand their chosen businesses.
He advised participants to make productive use of the starter packs rather than selling them, noting that the equipment was provided to support sustainable livelihoods, business growth and long-term economic self-sufficiency.
The nationwide intervention is expected to train over 18,000 Nigerians across 220 training centres spread across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Participants in Oyo, Ogun and Lagos states have expressed optimism that the practical knowledge and experience gained during the programme would improve their employability, stimulate entrepreneurship and enhance their standard of living.
With only three working days remaining, the programme is entering its final phase as beneficiaries prepare to complete their training and translate their newly acquired skills into productive economic opportunities.
