Tinubu Condemns Killing of Abducted Teacher, Assures Rescue of Victims in Oyo
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has condemned the reported killing of one of the teachers abducted during a bandit attack on schools in the Esiele community of Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The President described the act as barbaric and assured residents that security agencies are intensifying efforts to rescue the remaining victims and apprehend those behind the attack.
The gunmen had invaded the Esiele community last Friday, abducting staff, students and pupils from Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu sympathised with Governor Seyi Makinde, the government and people of Oyo State over the incident.
He also extended condolences to the families of the kidnapped victims, particularly following the reported killing of one of the teachers.
“I am saddened by the reported killing of one of the teachers kidnapped by the gunmen who invaded the community. I sympathise with Governor Seyi Makinde and commend the steps he has taken on the matter,” the President said.
Tinubu disclosed that the Federal Government is collaborating with the Oyo State Government and security agencies to ensure the safe rescue of all abducted victims.
He commended the Inspector-General of Police and the Commissioners of Police in Oyo and Kwara states for their swift intervention and deployment of tactical teams and the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) to the area.
According to the President, the Inspector-General of Police is personally leading a technology-driven rescue operation on his directive, expressing optimism that a breakthrough would soon be achieved.
“The bandits and all their local collaborators will be fished out and made to face the full wrath of the law,” Tinubu stated.
The President further stressed the need for the establishment of state police to tackle insecurity in underserved areas across the country.
He urged the National Assembly to accelerate legislative action on the creation of state police as part of broader efforts to strengthen security architecture nationwide.
