APC Youth Leader Faults Makinde Over Rising Insecurity in Oyo
The Oyo State Youth Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Olaekan Glory, has criticized the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde over the growing insecurity across the state, particularly the recent attacks and abductions reported in Oriire Local Government Area.
In a press release made available to journalists, the APC chieftain described the security situation in the state as alarming and accused the present administration of failing to adequately protect lives and property.
According to him, the recent attacks in three schools within Oriire Local Government, alongside the increasing cases of kidnappings and insecurity in different parts of the state, have created fear among residents, travelers, farmers, school communities, and families.
Olaekan stated that it was unfortunate that citizens now live in fear while the government allegedly treats critical security concerns with “political complacency and media propaganda instead of decisive action.”
He condemned what he described as the worsening insecurity ravaging Oyo State, especially the attacks and abductions in Oriire, stressing that no responsible government should remain comfortable while communities are terrorized and parents remain uncertain about the safety of their children.
The APC Youth Leader further argued that Oyo State receives substantial monthly allocations and security votes from the Federal Government, insisting that the people deserve visible and effective security interventions rather than excuses and political grandstanding.
“The lives of the people of Oyo State must never be sacrificed on the altar of politics,” he stated.
He therefore called on the Makinde-led administration to urgently declare a state of emergency on security in the state, deploy all necessary resources to rescue abducted victims, strengthen intelligence gathering and local security architecture in vulnerable communities, and stop politicizing insecurity.
Olaekan also urged the government to treat the safety of citizens as its primary responsibility, warning that silence and political distractions would not solve the growing security challenges facing the state.
He concluded by expressing solidarity with affected families and called for immediate government intervention before the situation deteriorates further.
