Revealed: Governor Makinde Allegedly Planning To Borrow Another 100bn From UBA, Allegedly Plans To Get House Nod With 1bn Inducement
It has been revealed that Governor Seyi Makinde had a secret meeting with some members of the Oyo state House of Assembly yesterday.
The meeting, according to sources, was called at the instance of the Governor and the purpose was to implore the House of Assembly to approve, yet, another 100 billion Naira loan.
It is alleged that the Members of the House who were present at the meeting expressed their displeasure over several failed promises by the Governor regarding previous approval of loans.
To persuade the Honourable Members present at the meeting, it is alleged that Governor Makinde promised to give them the sum of 1 billion Naira.
It is further alleged that Governor Seyi Makinde is planning to take the loan from the United Bank for Africa, UBA.
You will recollect that a Hon. Member representing Saki West in the Oyo state House of Assembly, Hon. Shittu Ibrahim raised an alarm last year regarding the existence of a Cabal within the Oyo state House of Assembly.
According to the allegations raised by Hon. Shittu at the time, the Cabal within the Oyo state House of Assembly used to approve loans for the Governor without following due process.
Hon. Shittu’s allegations were swept under the carpet.
The question you will want to ask at this point is, why are we borrowing? What has happened to previous loans obtained by Governor Seyi Makinde? Where is the report of the House of Assembly oversight on the projects attached to previous loans? Why would the Governor have to promise Hon. Members the sum of 1 billion Naira, as alleged, before they approve a loan request?
At this point, we have to take a second look at the allegations raised by Hon. Shittu Ibrahim.
We are very close to election period. Already, the state is wallowing in debts and most of the loans obtained by this Government were obtained under very controversial circumstances.
The projects attached to the loans are just too much and no one, including the Oyo state House of Assembly are tracking the projects attached to the several loans obtained by Governor Seyi Makinde.
We have to wake up and I think the Media has so much to do at this point.
Sola Abegunde.
