Oko Glows as Omo-oba Olaniyan Unveils Solar Projects, Backs APC Ahead of 2027
The ancient town of Oko in Surulere Local Government Area of Oyo State came alive on Sunday as sons and daughters of the community gathered to witness the commissioning of two solar-powered boreholes and more than 100 solar-powered street lights, projects facilitated by Omo-oba Adedamola Olaniyan of the Oranmiyan Dynasty as part of his commitment to community development.
The event, which attracted traditional leaders, youths, political stakeholders and residents from within and outside the community, also featured a call for support for candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during the commissioning, Omo-oba Adedamola Olaniyan said the projects were borne out of his passion to improve the living conditions of his people rather than any immediate political ambition.
“Today is about giving back to the community that raised me. I did not embark on these projects because I am contesting for any political office. My greatest desire is to see my hometown develop and our people enjoy basic amenities. The future belongs to God, but for now, my focus is service to humanity and the progress of our community,” he said.”
Omooba Adedamola, however, urged the people of Oyo Central Senatorial District to unite behind the APC in the 2027 elections.
According to him, “The governorship ticket of Senator Sarafadeen Alli and his running mate, Adesoji Adedeji (Iba-Agba), remains the only ticket that can guarantee sustained progress and development for Oyo State. I also appeal to our people in Ogooluwa/Surulere federal constituency to support Hon. Segun Odebunmi (Bunvic), whose wealth of legislative experience makes him the best choice to represent the constituency. This is simply a choice of experience over inexperience.”
Representing Hon. Segun Odebunmi (Bunvic) at the event, Prince Adesina Adedokun Aremo-Oranmiyan of Okoland applauded Omooba Olaniyan for demonstrating uncommon love for his people through tangible developmental projects.
“Omooba Adedamola Olaniyan has distinguished himself as a proud and worthy son of Oko. Rather than making promises, he has chosen to make meaningful investments in the welfare of his people. These projects will have lasting impacts on the lives of residents, and they deserve our appreciation,” he stated.
Prince Adedokun added that the projects reflect the developmental vision of the Renewed Hope Agenda and called on residents to support APC candidates in the 2027 elections.
“These interventions are in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda’s commitment to improving the lives of Nigerians. I therefore appeal to our people to vote massively for APC candidates—from the governorship to every elective position on the ballot—so that more developmental projects can be attracted to our communities,” he said.
The commissioning ceremony was witnessed by a large crowd of community members, political associates and well-wishers. Among those present were Prince Adepoju Amos Akinade, Mr Moses Olushadow, the National General Secretary of the National Association of University Students (NAUS), Comrade Olayinka Tiamiyu, and several other notable personalities.
Residents described the projects as timely interventions that will improve access to clean water, enhance security through better street lighting and contribute significantly to the socio-economic development of the ancient town of Oko.
