Leadership is often measured not by words spoken during moments of comfort, but by actions taken in times of crisis.
On May 16, 2026, the people of Oriire Local Government Area and the entire Ogbomoso zone were thrown into anguish following the horrifying attack on Community High School, Esiele and Yawota Baptist Nursery and Primary School, where pupils and teachers were abducted by armed criminals.
The incident sent shockwaves across Oyo State and beyond. Families were left devastated, communities were gripped by fear, and residents anxiously awaited decisive intervention from government and security authorities.
At a time when the people needed a strong voice at the national level, the Member representing Ogbomoso North, Ogbomoso South and Oriire Federal Constituency, Hon. Olamijuwonlo Ayodeji Alao-Akala, rose to the occasion.
Understanding the gravity of the situation and the urgent need for federal intervention, the lawmaker promptly brought the matter before the House of Representatives through a Motion of Urgent Public Importance. On the floor of the Green Chamber, Hon. Alao-Akala passionately drew the attention of the Federal Government, security agencies and the entire nation to the plight of the abducted pupils, teachers and their families.
The motion was not merely a legislative procedure; it was a bold call for action. It represented the collective pain, fears and aspirations of the people of Oriire and Ogbomoso who demanded swift and coordinated efforts to secure the release of the victims and restore confidence in the security architecture of the affected communities.
During his presentation, Hon. Alao-Akala highlighted the devastating impact of the incident on education, community life and economic activities within the area. He stressed the need for urgent deployment of security resources, enhanced intelligence gathering, and sustained efforts to ensure the safe rescue of the victims.
His intervention ensured that the matter received national attention and became a subject of deliberation at the highest levels of government. More importantly, it demonstrated that the people of Ogbomoso and Oriire had a representative who was prepared to utilize every constitutional and legislative avenue available to protect their interests.
Today, as the abducted pupils and teachers have regained their freedom and reunited with their loved ones, the people of the constituency have every reason to reflect on the importance of responsive representation.
While the successful rescue operation was the product of the efforts of the Federal Government, security agencies, traditional institutions, community leaders and other critical stakeholders, Hon. Alao-Akala’s legislative intervention remains a significant chapter in the story. His motion amplified the voices of the victims’ families, mobilized national attention, and reinforced the urgency of government action.
The episode stands as a testament to the power of proactive representation and responsible leadership. It reaffirms the principle that elected representatives must not only make laws but must also serve as advocates for their people, especially during moments of adversity.
As the people of Oriire and Ogbomoso celebrate the safe return of the victims, they also acknowledge the commitment of Hon. Olamijuwonlo Alao-Akala, whose swift action on the floor of the House of Representatives ensured that the cries of his constituents were heard across the nation.
Indeed, when Oriire needed a voice, Hon. Alao-Akala spoke. When Ogbomoso demanded action, he acted. And when the people sought representation in their hour of need, he stood firmly on their behalf.
