Governor Oluwaseyi Makinde: Betrayals And The Beginning Of The End || By Sola Abegunde

Governor Oluwaseyi Abiodun Makinde: Betrayals And The Beginning Of The End.

These are not the best of times for the Governor of Oyo state.

It is becoming clearer, even to his rabbid supporters, that the choice of path the Governor elects to thread is leading to political oblivion.

Even, those who exchanged their conscience to the Governor for gifts of SUVs are becoming circumspect.

Before I proceed, let me comment on two videos that are being widely reposted by Governor Seyi Makinde’s supporters.

The first one has to do with an interview granted by Amb. Taofik Arapaja, shortly before the 2023 gubernatorial election.

I will not comment on the contents of that video but I have to say that I am surprised that supporters of Governor Seyi Makinde are suddenly discovering that the contents of the video are offensive and not proper.

Did they not clap for the former Deputy Governor when he granted the interview far back in 2023? Circulating that same video now to score cheap political points, to me, is hypocrisy of the highest order.

Like I said, I will not make further comments on the contents of the video.

I had made my opinion known on the contents before now and I stand by them but for Governor Seyi Makinde’s supporters who are reposting Arapaja’s interview of 2023, I can not think of any words strong enough to condemn their hypocrisy.

The second video has to do with an alleged altercation between Oriyomi Hamzat and an okadar rider.

I must confess that I laughed my heart out after watching the video.

If Oriyomi Hamzat is not a journalist, I bet, he would have been a Boxing Champion in his weight category if he chooses to be a Boxer.

I must however say that I am equally disappointed that Governor Seyi Makinde’s supporters found the reposting of the ugly incident funny at this time.

I am still waiting for the day they will repost the video of Bimbo Adekambi where he was defending the allegations that Ajimobi left a debt of 150 billion Naira behind.

In defense of Ajimobi, Adekambi, who was Ajimobi’s Commissioner for Finance implied that Governor Seyi Makinde was lying about the figure of 150 billion Naira.

I am also waiting for the day they will repost the video of Governor Seyi Makinde alleged that the Government of Ajimobi moved billions of Naira from the state coffers within a few days left for that Government in office.

Infact, Governor Makinde stated that the Government of Ajimobi left the sum of 19 thousand Naira in the state coffers.

Bimbo Adekambi was the Commissioner for Finance during those period in question and I don’t think the previous Government could have moved those billions of Naira behind his back.

Shouldn’t Governor Seyi Makinde’s supporters entertain us with a repost of those videos so that we can set Bimbo Adekambi against his new mentor?

I said these are very difficult times for Governor Seyi Makinde.

The criticisms against the Governor by the supporters of Amb. Taofik Arapaja must have hurt a lot.

The reference to the Governor as a serial betrayal most especially, but, let us ask ourselves, from available records, is Governor Seyi Makinde truly a serial betrayal?

To answer this question, you have to go back to Governor Makinde’s journey in politics.

You have to look at how he had attempted severally to stand on his own merits and how, on each occasion he did that, he failed.

You have to look at the coalition of 2023, the facilitator, the partners and Governor Makinde’s present relationships with them.

You have to look at the G-5, Tinubu and the alignments that secured him a second term in office.

You have to look at Hosea Agboola ( Alleluyah ), Ayodele Fayose, Nyesom Wike, the Peoples Democratic Party and how Governor Seyi Makinde managed the alliance between him and president Tinubu.

If you looked at these events critically and objectively and you examine Governor Makinde’s present disposition to the events and the personalities involved, you would have no problem in concluding that Governor Seyi Makinde is indeed a serial betrayal.

Even, the choices of Bimbo Adekambi as gubernatorial candidate of Governor Seyi Makinde’s Allied People’s Movement, APM, open Salawu as the Deputy Governornorship candidate and Ajadi as Senatorial Candidate for Oyo Central Senatorial District says a lot about the Governor.

You would want to ask, where are those who worked with Governor Seyi Makinde for about seven years?

Why couldn’t any of them be trusted to take over from the Governor?

In fact, I am surprised that for all the bullets Debo Ogundoyin took for Governor Seyi Makinde, he couldn’t get a ticket for the Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency but was rather asked to go and repeat the class as a candidate for the Ibarapa East House of Assembly.

I told someone recently that the only person I believe Governor Seyi Makinde is not capable of betraying, is, perhaps, Seye Famojuro.

After Governor Makinde leaves office by May 29, 2027, it will be interesting, to eventually unravel, who exactly, Seye Famojuro is. The only man Governor Seyi Makinde would never dare to betray!

Governor Makinde is a very lucky politician but he has a big problem- arrogance.

The day I listened to him saying that he could be very stubborn, I felt for him because at that point, I could see clearly, where his stubborness was leading him to.

It was a one way ticket to disaster.

I am however so surprised recently , to see that the Governor of Oyo state could be this somber and quiet.

I don’t know if anyone else noticed that we are not hearing so much from a once upon a time outspoken personality.

Even, he has left Bimbo Adekambi alone to face the dilemma of marketing himself.

I had hoped and thought that the ‘ Thank You Tour ‘ organized by the APM would provide me with the opportunity for some amusements because Governor Makinde’s speeches always provide me with plenty of it.

It looks like the Governor of Oyo state is losing steam and why won’t he?

He has lost all his shock absorbers through acts of betrayal and arrogance.

How could one man take on the president of the Federation and other formidable oppositions at the same time?

You claimed that the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria offered you the opportunity to help reorganize his political party but you declined.

The old man didn’t take it against you, yet, you decided to hold a Media Chat where you rained insults and abuses against him.

Not long after that, we saw a video of you with the same president where he hosted you in his office. You left the meeting with the president and started talking in riddles.

Now, you have wrecked the PDP and have been chased out of the party.

You are currently the presidential candidate and the all- in- all of the APM. Aren’t you happy? Isn’t that what you have always hoped for?

If it is, why the unusual silence? Is that how you want to defeat Tinubu in 2027? Suke!

When I saw the comments credited to a former Governor of Anambra state, Peter Obi, saying that Governor Makinde told him that President Tinubu had not called him since the abduction of Teachers and Pupils at Oriire Local Government, I shook my head in disbelief.

I asked myself, how low are politicians willing to descend just because they want to malign each other?

Who is supposed to call who? Infact, Governor Seyi Makinde is supposed to have briefed the president personally on this matter.

If he chose not to do so, how is that a sin for the president?

Just yesterday, I read in the news that the DSS are making positive progress regarding the abduction at Oriire. So, whether anyone calls anybody or not, the important thing is the progress made and the actions taken by the president.

For the second time in his political career, Governor Makinde is standing alone.

He started as a loner and when he did, he was beaten blue and black.

I am surprised that he chose to go back to being a loner.

The results is easily predictable.

A crushing defeat.

Sola Abegunde.
