Oyo Central Residents Raise Concerns Over Accord Party Aspirant, Jimoh Orankan
Some concerned residents of Oyo Central Senatorial District have expressed reservations over the senatorial ambition of Accord Party aspirant, Jimoh Orankan, ahead of the forthcoming elections.
In a statement made available to journalists, the residents questioned Mr. Orankan’s political experience, grassroots involvement, and overall preparedness to represent the district at the National Assembly.
According to the statement, the group argued that Oyo Central, being a politically sensitive and diverse constituency, requires a candidate with deep understanding of the terrain, broad-based acceptance, and a visible record of public engagement and service.
The residents also raised concerns about what they described as Mr. Orankan’s limited political structure and alleged dependence on popular Ibadan-based broadcaster, Oriyomi Hamzat, for visibility and political relevance.
They further called for greater transparency regarding the aspirant’s educational background, public communication abilities, and sources of campaign funding, stressing that anyone seeking public office should be open to public scrutiny and accountability.
Part of the statement read:
“The people of Oyo Central deserve leadership built on competence, credibility, experience, and transparency. Anyone aspiring to represent the district must be ready to answer legitimate public questions regarding their background, qualifications, and financial dealings.”
The residents also urged political parties and stakeholders to ensure that candidates presented for elective positions possess the character, competence, and integrity necessary to serve the people effectively.
Efforts to obtain reactions from Mr. Orankan or the Accord Party campaign team were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
