Insecurity : Oyo Guber Hopeful, Tunde Akinola Writes NYSC DG
Dear Director-General, National Youth Service Corps,
I bring you warm greetings in the spirit of unity, patriotism, and our shared commitment to building a stronger and more peaceful Nigeria. The NYSC has, for decades, remained a vital institution for national integration, shaping the character, discipline, and future of our young people. Your leadership continues to sustain this noble mission, and for that, we express our profound appreciation.
As someone deeply concerned about the wellbeing of Nigerian youths and the future of our great nation, I wish to humbly draw your attention to an issue that touches the hearts of many families: the safety of corps members serving in areas with ongoing security challenges.
Every year, our young graduates step forward with courage and optimism to serve their motherland for one full year. They are the pride of their families and the hope of our nation. It is only natural that parents and guardians feel anxious when their children are deployed to locations where insecurity has been reported. No parent should live in fear while their child is away serving the country they all love.
Sir, while I fully support the idea of national service and the unity it promotes, I respectfully appeal that any corps member who feels insecure in their place of posting should be granted redeployment without unnecessary delays or obstacles. This consideration will not only ease the burden on families but will also strengthen trust in the NYSC and reinforce the belief that the safety of our youths remains a top priority.
Our youths are ready to serve. They are eager to contribute meaningfully to nation-building. But they must be able to do so in an environment where their safety, dignity, and emotional wellbeing are assured.
Under your capable leadership, I am confident that the NYSC will continue to enhance its safety protocols, deepen collaboration with host communities, and ensure that every corps member feels protected, valued, and supported in their call to serve.
Thank you for your dedication to a unified and progressive Nigeria. May your tenure continue to inspire trust, courage, and national pride among our young people.
Yours sincerely,
AKINOLA JOSEPH AKINOLA
