OGBOMOSO NORTH: THE HEARTBEAT IN NEED OF A STRONGER VOICE – Hon. Sayo Owolabi
Like every other state constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Ogbomoso North has been represented over the years by sons and daughters of the soil. These representatives have been different things to different people, and to the best of their abilities, they have served us in the ways they knew best. Indeed, we have had our fair share of representation through them. As the saying goes, “Every society deserves the leaders it gets,” and Ogbomoso North is no exception.
Over time, we have witnessed the good, the bad, and the ugly. For a cosmopolitan constituency such as ours, one would expect progressive representation; leadership that builds upon the gains of predecessors. Unfortunately, the reverse seems to be the case. With each succession, we appear to move backward rather than forward. By every fair measure, our last representative outperformed the current one.
Ogbomoso North known for its magnanimity toward women in politics, has now lost its once vibrant voice at the Red Chamber. The voice that used to echo with strength and conviction has grown faint and almost voiceless now; this calls for urgent evaluation and sincere introspection.
We must rise above apathy and bridge the disconnect created by the incumbent representative over the past two years. The Ogbomoso North State Constituency deserves better, for it remains, without a doubt, the heartbeat of Ogbomosoland.
