Oyo Youth Group Disowns Alleged 2027 Endorsement List, Warns Against Fourth-Term Bid, Seeks Transparent APC Primaries

The Oyo Youth Solidarity Movement (OYSM) has strongly refuted reports circulating within political circles that certain candidates have already been handpicked to represent the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo federal constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the group described the narrative as “reckless, mischievous and deliberately misleading,” insisting that no official decision has been taken by the party regarding the selection of candidates for the governorship, Senate, or House of Representatives seats.

According to the group, the party has only recently concluded its congresses, which produced duly elected executives responsible for setting guidelines and frameworks for transparent primaries. It stressed that the process of candidate selection has neither commenced nor reached any conclusive stage.

“While consensus remains a recognized method of candidate selection within the party, no such arrangement has been deliberated upon or announced. What is being circulated is nothing but calculated misinformation aimed at manipulating public perception,” the statement read.

The movement expressed particular concern over claims that Hon. Akeem Adeyemi had already been selected to run for another term representing Oyo Federal Constituency. It described the report as false and cautioned against attempts to impose any aspirant on party members and constituents through media propaganda.

OYSM further argued that equity and fairness must guide political representation within the constituency. The group noted that Atiba Local Government, where Adeyemi hails from, has held the federal seat for a significant number of years, calling for broader inclusion of other local governments within the constituency.

“It is important to ask fundamental questions about fairness, inclusiveness, and rotation of opportunities. Public office should not be perceived as a personal entitlement or monopolized by any individual or group,” the statement added.

The youth group appealed to the leadership of the APC in Oyo State to uphold internal democracy and ensure that all aspirants are given a level playing field during the primaries.

“We call on the leadership of our great party in Oyo State to resist any attempt at imposition and to guarantee a transparent, credible, and fair primary process that reflects the will of party members and the broader electorate,” the group stated.

Reaffirming its commitment to democratic principles, the Oyo Youth Solidarity Movement maintained that Oyo Federal Constituency “is not a private estate but a collective mandate that belongs to the people.”

The group concluded by urging stakeholders to allow justice, fairness, and internal democracy to prevail in order to strengthen the party’s chances in the 2027 general elections.
