Re: The Appointment Of New Onitabo- The Confusion Circle Is Complete || Sola Abegunde

By the time Governor Seyi Makinde installs Prince Kehinde Isiaka Bayonle Ojedokun as the Onitabo of Itabo Land, the circle of confusion in the Traditional Institutions within Ibarapa East Local Government must have been completed.

Itabo is a Community within Lanlate town, with a distinct Traditional Head.

On the first of July, 2026, the Oyo state Government, through a Press release signed by the Commissioner for information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, announced the approval of the name of Prince Kehinde Isiaka as the Onitabo of Itabo Land.

The interesting thing about this announcement is the allegation that Prince Kehinde Isiaka got just a vote from the Kingmakers while another Prince of Itabo who also contested for the throne, Jamiu Alabi Adedotun got 3 votes.

The Itabo Kingmakers who participated in the selection process are four in number.

Chief Adeleke Ogunleti the Elemo of Itabo is the Chairman of the Kingmakers, Chief Olagbeso Olaniyi is the Asalu of Itabo Land Chief Okelola Olawale is the Ojumo of Itabo Land while Chief Gbolamu Afolabi was allegedly appointed as Warrant Chief by the Oyo state Government.

From my findings, only the Kingmaker appointed through Warrant by the Oyo state Government voted for Prince Kehinde Isiaka while the Chairman of the Kingmakers and the two other Chiefs voted for Prince Jamiu Alabi Adedotun.

Interestingly but not surprisingly, Governor Makinde approved the appointment of the Prince who scored a vote over the choice of the Kingmakers.

Presently, the man sitting on the throne of Eruwa is sitting there against the judgments of all the layers of Courts in Nigeria, courtesy of Governor Seyi Makinde’s violent disobedience of the Courts.

The Court had since delivered a judgment which ordered the removal of the Onlala of Lanlate from the throne but Governor Makinde refused to comply with that judgement up till today but he complied with the initial judgment of the Oyo state High Court which removed the Onlala of Lanlate who he met on the throne, in favor of the present occupier of the Onlala stool.

Now, against the wishes of the Kingmakers and the Itabo Community, Governor Makinde is poised to place the choice of the minority on the throne of Itabo Land against the majority.

Governor Seyi Makinde will be a wonderful specimen in the study of Leadership and power drunkenness in the nearest future.

I am so surprised that he has failed to accept the fact that his days as the Governor of Oyo state is fast running out and reckoning beckons.

Now, just like Eruwa and Lanlate, the Itabo Community are about to be thrown into litigations over the Traditional stool courtesy of Governor Seyi Makinde.

In Ibarapa East, even if we have nothing to show for Makinde’s eight years tenure, we will be pointing to the confusion he brought into our traditional Institutions.

Eyi naa to ntia.

Sola Abegunde.
