“Before I Resigned, Tinubu Told Me… – Ex-Power Minister Adelabu Speaks”

Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has revealed that Bola Ahmed Tinubu personally advised him to resign from his ministerial position to pursue his long-standing governorship ambition.

Adelabu made this known on Saturday during a homecoming event in his local government area, where he addressed supporters and political stakeholders. According to him, the President, in a private one-on-one meeting, encouraged him to focus on his political aspiration without hindrance.

“Mr. President told me clearly to go and resign and pursue my governorship ambition. He said, ‘as much as I would like you to be around me, I will not stop you from pursuing your ambition,’” Adelabu disclosed.

The former minister described the conversation as a demonstration of Tinubu’s support for political growth and internal democracy, noting that his governorship ambition has been a long-term goal.

Adelabu resigned his position as Minister of Power on April 21, 2026, to enable him concentrate fully on his bid for the Oyo State governorship.

A former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), he has remained a prominent figure in Oyo State politics and was the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the 2019 election.

His latest revelation is expected to further shape the political landscape in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 general elections, especially within the APC, where permutations and alignments have begun to intensify.
